Currently a baritone with the Metropolitan Opera in New
York City, Mark Oswald was born in New Ringgold and attended Tamaqua schools.
He has been featured in the BBC Music Magazine as someone whose star
will continue to rise in the opera world.
Mr. Oswald has performed in such operas as Il Barbiere
di Siviglia, Pagliacci, and La Bohème. He is the
winner of numerous awards including the 1989 Metropolitan Opera National
Council Auditions, a 1993 Career Grant from the Richard Tucker Foundation,
and the George London Award from Opera America.
Before every Tamaqua High School home
football game, Mark would sing the national anthem and then run down on
to the field and play split end.
