Pete Gray
Pete Gray (born Peter J. Wyshner) was an outfielder for the St. Louis Browns.
The unique thing about Pete was he had only one arm. To field the ball,
he would catch it in his glove, stick the glove under the stump of his right arm,
draw the ball clear with his left hand, and throw it to the infield.
Overcoming his disability and achieving the ranks of pro ball says a lot not only
about Pete Gray's skill as a ballplayer, but even more about his sheer
human courage. He was voted the "most courageous athlete" in 1944.
Truly an inspiration.
