I am writing a book, the History of Sans Souci Park, and I would like to have any memories or anecdotes of the park from you. Photos are especially needed and will be returned. All submissions will receive accreditation in the book. I can accept articles until July 1, 2001 then I must cut off new entries. Book should be completed by the end of the year. Thanks in advance for your help. C. Charles Ciesla RD #3, Box 3188 Wapwallopen, Pa. 18660 Phone 570-868-3439
Very brief history follows: Hanover Park was started in 1895 by the WB Transit Company. It was sold in 1905 to Brown & Kuenhnle and was renamed Sans Souci Park. Later owners were the Browns, O'Connells, Lee's, and Barr's. It was razed in 1970 to make room for the new Hanover Area High School. The park had all of the usual attractions including the Bear Cat roller coaster,a Merry-Go-Round, and a popular dance hall.In it's very early years (c1905), it also had a lake for boating and a double-decker dance hall; one band played simultaneously to both decks. Does some of the above stir up your memories? If so, pass them on to me so they can be preserved for posterity. Thanks. Charles
