As a coal-regioner passes through the country, people are intrigued by the unigue accent and coal region stories. Over the past two years that is what I experienced. As always, I enjoy gabbing and bragging about my native area. I always refer people I meet to view this website.
I lived in LA for 10 months and found the area not to be my style. After the death of my grandfather (Joe Yanall), I drove back home with my good friend Randy Fetter (Mahanoy City). It was good to return home; however, I realized (with motivation provided by Coach John McCole)that I needed to move on with my career. Thanks to my company, Aspen Environmental Group, I returned to the Sacramento area to work on the current energy crisis. I found this area to consist of down-to-earth people, just like back east. As for now, I'm here to stay bringing with me a little bit of Chendo. Hell yeah, my phone bills are up there, but it's worth keeping in touch with my coal region friends. The weather out here is plain old hot but with less or no humidity; therefore, I can deal with it. The Sierra Nevadas are truly majestic mountains and the Bay area is a cool place to party. I actually found bars similar to Romans and RJ's; however, no food similar to Lucky's deli (There you go Lucky, the B-otch provided some marketing for you). Anyway, I'd like to say hello to all my comrades in the coal region and will never forget the area.
One interesting note that I'd like to share with everyone. After a power plant workshop, I had the opportunity to talk to some of the locals where the proposed power plant may be constructed. One local said.."Joe, I know that the new power plant, which will replace the old one that is scheduled to be demolished, will be more efficient and the stacks will not be seen from a distance, but I grew up here, and will miss the old stacks (450' tall)because it was a part of my life". I replied "I understand your concern...I grew up with coal refuse banks all around my area..and it brings back nostalgic feelings". I then proceeded to inform him about Yuengling and can't wait to try the new Lager Kortz. Have a good one..and great website.
