Comments: Even though my coal region roots are several generations removed, my father's mother's family (Horn) were from Donaldson, Frailey Township,he must have had the speech patterns. Coalspeak sounds like home to me! I still say things like "straighten up the house" and I have two "dodders". Of course I also say ya'll now.

Comments: We were born and raised in this small, coal mining town, and now we have a 14 year old who is learning. We were in VA for 10 years so our son has only been here in PA for four years. One thing I will say, all us Pennsylvania Dutch Honkees stay together and always are friendly whereas the big citys like VA and DC are not.

Comments: It has been a few months since I was on this page. My husband and I have found people here love Polish coal region food! We are having a Polish pot luck dinner this weekend! Many even willing to try cooking from the recipes.
