| Raised at 1430 Chestnut Street in Kulpmont...moved to NJ in
1958...graduated from St. Peter's Parochial in Mt. Carmel in
1956...attended Mt. Carmel Catholic for one year of high school and
Kulpmont for Sophmore and part of Junior years...no matter where you
go you always think back to The Heart, Tracy's Dick, all the other
swimming holes, the Saturday matinees at The Imperial Theater for 15
cents, and childhood memories that you can't put a price tag
on...get back every once in awhile, but not enough...take care!

| Hi there! I'm trying to find more information on the baseball
leagues formed by the coal miners back in the 30s and 40s. My
husband's grandfather played on teams in Olyphant and Jessup. The
two team pictures we have from those towns are treasured in the
family, and we are trying to find out more about the history of the
teams/the league. If anyone can help, I'd love to hear from you.

| Hi! I'm interested in this site because my GGGrandfather
PATRICK MANLEY worked the mines in Carbondale. I believe his father
did as well, and some brothers - but I don't know their first names.
My GGGrandmother's father (Michael or Thomas) Mahon probably worked
there also. If anyone knows of miners with the surnames MANLEY or
MAHON, I'd love to hear from you! The primary time frame would be mi
to late 1800's, but possibly earlier. Thanks, Kathy

Hiya dooin? I'm from three generations of Shamokin miners and
dress factory workers and can't stop smiling when I read these
messages from the Anthracite dispora. You should all be proud of
where you came from because looking at this country today, we were
taught some of the best values by some of the best parents, teachers
and coaches in the country. I am interested in helping kids from
the region attend college and become professionals the way I was
helped by former Anthracite people. We should help pull our
resources to help Anthracite kids attend college, get internships
and enter professional careers. I'm sure that many of you can
remember what it was like to apply to and attend such schools when
your parents didn't have the skills or knowledge to help you. I
would love to help put together an informal Anthracite connection to
help such students and welcome any help or advice you may
have. All the best. ----Randy
