I was referred to the coal region site by an old classmate, my heartfelt thanks to Bill Barrett for putting me on to this site. I was born and raised in Shamokin. I left the area 30 years ago and rarely get back to my home town. None of my immediate family lives in Shamokin but I still have Aunts, Uncles and cousins living in the area. I have been back to the Guestbook every day for the past week. I think the site is great. The region is now world famous. I often wonder how my school chums from St. Stan's and OLOL (class of 63) are doing. I have to agree with the many visitors, I found the CoalSpeak Dictionary a real giggle. I now know why I am often asked if I'm from Ireland or some west country English County. I've even been accused of being Scottish and only occasionally as an American. Gook luck keep up the very good work. SO FAR YET SO NEAR. |

Just surfing by and what a wonderful surprise to read about my hometown, Shamokin, PA. Was born on Grant Street in a house next to the St. John's church. Have a lot of cousins still up there. But, I did lose track of some cousins on the Musick side. Would love to hear from Aunt Pearl and Uncle Harry's kids. Hope they read this. I have fond memories of Knoebels Grove and Edgewood Park. Was a freshman in Shamokin Hi when my dad, Jim Musick, went to Philadelphia to do defense work before WWII. Hey Fritzi Kern are youse out there. Remember how we pedalled our tricycles on Grant Street? Let's hear from you. Lived on Gold Steet next to the Harris' in what was called Quality Hill. It was next to the cemetary and on top of Patty's Hill. The stories I could tell about Lovers Lane...but my lips are sealed. Thanks for the Guestbook page. I'll check back often. |

All you ever do is rag on us because we are from the "coal region". We'll I'm sorry but you must be pathetic if you get personal gratification out of the humiliation of others! I'm proud of the fact that I'm from your so called "Coal Region" (although no one inside this "coal region" refers to this name as where they are from). You better rake us for all the personal gratification that you can get because, buddy, when you die (and you will) you will find that you are as empty as a box with no bottom on it. You will see that your lifeless, empty, pathetic, and useless soul has no place to go! And I will revel in your metaphyasical asphixiation! :) |
