Comments: This is a GREAT site. We laughed at Coal Speak till we cried...we heard family and friends in those words. John (the Marko Towne House) graduated from Cardinal Brennan in 1970 and Cornell in 1974. I (Marsha) graduated from OLOL (from Kulpmont-Scott Street) in 1970 and Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing in 1973--Allentown PA. Any memories of good times at the Marko Towne House would be appreciated. We get "HOME" pretty often as our daughter is a Sophomore at Penn State (University Park) We would love to hear from our friends...What a great way to keep in touch. Our hats are off to the creators of this rich and wonderful site! Thanks!

Comments: I am originally from the Metropolis of Kaska. I really enjoyed the dictionary. Most of it was my father to a tee. I'm not sure if everyone uses it in the region but here is some other slang that I didn't see... My brudder (brother) & my mudder(mother). And when something changes.. "It use-n-ta be like that" again, I don't know if that was common. It's a great site. My father was a coal miner & the dictionary really brought him back to life for me.

Comments: I'm originally from south central Pennsylvania, but my father - Albert Millichap - was from Shenandoah - and although he left the area when he was 33, I could hear the "coal cracker" in his voice all his life. The CoalSpeak section of this site brought back many memories of all the visits we made to my grandmother's house (later my aunt's) on West Street in Shenandoah. This is a wonderful site and unlike any other one I've seen - and I spend a lot of time cruising the Web. I'd love to hear from any coal-regions Millichaps or those who knew them.

I attended Mt Carmel HS from 77-79 before moving to Florida. (I now live in Tipton, Indiana.) I look forward to visiting PA again to get some Yuengling beer, bleenies (at a block party), and Middlesworth Bar-B-Q chips; plus visit places like Knoebels, the A-hole, Pioneer Tunnel, Centralia (what's left of it), Marone's and Matucci's. I've already found one person from my youth (Hi Janet!) and I'd like to make contact with some other folks. People include the former Judy Miriello and former Georgette Surzinski from Marion Heights, and Robert Smith and Jeff Dunkleberger from Mt. Carmel. We all attended Mt. Carmel HS in the late 70s.

Comments: I grew up in Scranton, PA (Nort Scra'un near da High Works). My brother, who lives in Virginia, told me about the page. Coalspeak is great. Not all of the words are native to the Scranton dialect, but many of them are. I really enjoyed it. The coal region is a unique part of the planet and the home of so many wonderful people. I would not trade growing up there for anything and always enjoy going back for a kort.

Comments: Love your page! I am originally from the heart of the Northern Coal Field Warrior Run, Between Nanticoke and Wilkes-Barre, At one time the the worlds largest coal breaker The Mighty Truesdale was in Da Boro, it burnt down in 55. My Dad was a miner as were many others in town. I grew up playing in the strippins and on the Culm banks. I could ramble on but I won't. Oh one more thing I have a word to add to your CoalSpeak Dictionary: Rezzie, short for reseviour, Hey are youse guys goin drinkin up da Hanover REZZIE?

Comments: I am from Lansford and my brother Joe told me about this. Not having been able to attend any class or school reunions I have lost contact with many friends from home. It would nice to be able to get in touch with them even if only by email. Thanks to all who put this together so we can get in touch once again.
