A-Treat and a chocolate Tastee cake cupcake, I miss it. |

I am from Maizeville and graduated from MAHS in 1975. I still have family in the area. Although I have been gone for 20 years, I do get back occasionally. Still can't find a good cheesesteak in Texas. |

People are right when they say that our babies eat, sleep, and play with a football in their hands. I know that my son will live in the tradition and play for the best high school football team around...the MOUNT CARMEL AREA RED TORNADOES!!! |

Of all the things people are talking about on this web site, I heard no one comment on the most monumental establishment of Shamokin. LET US NOT FORGET ABOUT "CONNS". My hat is off to other wonderful places in that little town: SherMiss-(Hey Hermie!),The Cole Hole-(Hey Dave!),The LOT-(Hey officer John!),Coney Island(Hey Blowburgers!)and Independence street itself. Cruisin the muscle cars and Harley's. Now that's livin!!!!! LONG LIVE THE COAL REGION AND THE FANTASTIC PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN THERE!!!! I WILL BE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Well, my God, I love that old town. Never realized how many of you out there from all those other places in the coal region feel the same way about your own home towns. I've been around plenty, but I can truly say that there's nothing in the world like back there where we all come from. I remember climbing the coal bank (matter of fact climbing up and down the 99s and the hills gave me strong legs for my Judo career later on), playing football on the Midgets for coach Hunky Williams, Washington school where my grandfather, my mother and my uncle and cousins all attended, watching those great old trains on the Pennsy and the Reading, all the butterflies in the summertime, and a great sense of peace about the whole place. Very peaceful in the valley, our own sort of private world. I also remember that each of the other towns - Mt. Carmel, Mahanoy City, Shenandoah, Frackville etc. - each seemed unique and seemed to have its own personality, each very complete unto itself. But going over to Sunbury, totally different. Sort of open, flat, not the same at all. Left there when I was only ten, but I still come back every now and then. By the way, my grandparents owned Liachowitz Jewelry Store. What a wonderful place to grow up. And I really appreciate this website. Keep up the good work. Oh yeah, one other thing: I happen to have a picture of the Midgets from around 1951-52. If anyone wants a copy, I could scan it in and e-mail it. |
